I recently took a trip to West Palm Beach from Los Angeles and my travel route was the following: LAX-DFW-PBI (Departure) & PBI-LAX (Return). It turned out to be one of the Best flying days I’ve had this year and I have traveled over 100,000 miles so far, but that day was just special. The crew from all the flights were super attentive, caring and focused on making the flight enjoyable by providing incredible customer service. I boarded a 757 from LAX to DFW and 737 from DFW to PBI which was equipped with WiFi. On Today’s blog post I will share my second leg of this trip and the overall service I received throughout the 2 hour and 30 minute flight to West Palm Beach, as well as the new 2 lunch options I was offered during the flight.
As soon as I arrived to the departure Gate the boarding process began and I was seating 6E isle, first class. The gate agents were friendly and cracking a few jokes, it’s tough running into agents these days that are smiling and happy – Upon entering the aircraft I was greeted by flight attendant Kelley, she was awesome and had a great sense of humor. Shortly when all the first class passengers got settled she started offering a pre-departure beverage and I couldn’t pass up a refreshment, so I went ahead and ordered a Vodka with Cranberry juice, it was ready within minutes and Kelley went ahead and delivered with a smile. I knew it was going to be a good flight just by the moment I entered the aircraft and for me customer service is everything. Being a frequent flyer myself, American Airlines is my home, away from home.
After the boarding process ended, the captain went on the PA introducing himself and told us the flight plan, flight time and our estimated time of arrival, he also let us know that it was going to be a fairly choppy climb out due to weather and winds but it should be a smooth flight after cruising altitude. After a 5 minute ground stop (whew, shortest ground stop I’ve ever had) in DFW because of Miami air traffic control having issues our departure was delayed – I was careless about it because safety delays has never bothered me, shortly after we were clear for take off. Once we reached cruising altitude, flight attendant Kelley started to pass out hot nuts and delivered my drink of choice, Ginger Ale. If you are an American Airlines frequent flyer, you know hot nuts it’s a signature snack prior to the meal.
While I was enjoying my ginger ale and snack, Kelley started taking meal orders and there was two great choices, Grilled salmon with a Green salad or Chicken Parmesan with a Zucchini salad, so I decided to get the chicken parmesan, it also came with steamed yams and carrots.
My thoughts on the meal I selected – the chicken was extremely delicious, the steamed yams and carrots was a good combination, in my opinion. Healthy and light. The salad shown on the photo could have been better, as you can see there wasn’t much in there to take a bite from and it was flavorless so I decided to leave it as it is. Kelley offered me bread but I don’t eat much bread so I decided to skip. My seat mate ordered the grilled salmon and she shared that it was delicious, so next time I board a flight on AA during lunch time and thats being offered – I am definitely trying it. I was pleased with my choice and lately since I have been flying more than usual, the choices and food from American have been really good, especially their Fiesta scramble eggs which I will share on a future blog post.
- If you are a fan of chicken, I recommend you to order it.
After the meal service was finished – I decided to sleep for the rest of the flight, due that it was a fairly bumpy flight (at different stages of the flight), I was not fully asleep so I would wake up every 20-30 minutes and I was also watching the Chicago Fire series that was playing through the flight but the episode was repeated due that on my previews flight it was also playing. I was finally able to knock out and woke up about 30 minutes before landing where I saw Kelley starting to offer us cookies and any other beverage of choice, I chose chocolate chip cookies & got ready for landing.
Not every flight that you board with American Airlines will offer you the same I was offered, it all depends on flight time, crew and catering for that particular day. But I hope you find this blog post helpful on what to expect if you encounter the same menu options as I did or if you’re flying first class with American for the first time, this gives you an idea of the in flight service and how things flow while being up in the air at 39 thousand feet.
Bottom line, flying with American Airlines it’s always an ultimate pleasure because it’s my airline of choice. The flight overall was great, the food was delicious, the service was outstanding and captain was awesome. We landed about 10 minutes later due to the delay we encounter in Dallas and the captain apologize. Before leaving the aircraft I thanked Kelley for such a great job and went on with my day.
