On July 16, 2014 I embarked on my journey to Hong Kong with American Airlines. I was a media guest to test their new service from Dallas International Airport to Hong Kong International Airport. Opinions and thoughts are my own.
In addition The Hong Kong Tourism Board accommodated my attractions during my visit to experience some of the unique things that Hong Kong offers for the tourist.
On Today’s blog i will be sharing my experience visiting one of the most popular places in Hong Kong not only for the tourist but also for the locals, which is the Nitrogen Lab Made Ice cream. When I first heard about this, I didn’t know what to expect but when the word ice cream was mentioned I was ready to give it a try, I mean who wouldn’t? Prior to going I did some research to know their mission and mainly how they got started.
The Nitrogen Lab Made Ice Cream is Asia’s first liquid nitrogen laboratory.

Making them to order means they are never stored in a freezer and retains their fresh, intense flavours.
- We are passionate about bringing you high quality ice cream.
- We are continuously experimenting and developing new, special flavours.
- We are re-inventing the ultimate ice cream experience.
Upon arrival, the Lab Made staff greeted me and welcomed me – they were very friendly and attentive. The facility was full of visitors and locals getting their ice cream. It was mid afternoon, the weather in Hong Kong was hot and what better than to kill the thirst with a delicious and refreshing treat. The shop is kept in great condition, very clean and organized. The shop isn’t very spacious or big but they do offer sitting inside if you’re wanting to sit down or if there is space available. However; you can hang around outside the facility and enjoy the vibe outside the store.

The locals & tourist enjoying their ice cream
You will find the menu for the different flavors of ice cream at the main entrance to the left hand side placed on a wall – once you’re ready to place your order, you can proceed to the counter and let one of the staff members know which ice cream you would like. You are also able to watch the process on how it’s made and it was fascinating to see the process.

Ice Cream being made as I watch the process – The first choice of Ice cream being made was the Birthday Cake, which was one of the most popular flavors the locals and tourist ask for. So if you’re wondering whats their top flavor, the birthday cake it is and in my opinion it was very tasty and the presentation was very cool.
The Final outcome – Birthday Cake Lab Made ice cream.
After trying the Birthday cake – I went ahead to try their Ginger Tofu & I thought the presentation of it was awesome and very unique.
And last but not least – After the delicious Ginger Tofu, I finished it off with another of their famous one known as Lemon Ribena Greek yogurt.
After finishing trying all of their amazing ice creams I was speechless on how tasty each of them were and If I had to pick a favorite I wouldn’t be able to pick just one because all of them were good in their own special way. The texture, the taste and the way it was made really shows a big different from the general ice cream we all normally eat while being in the States. The process for each didn’t take longer than 5 minutes and I truly enjoyed seeing the science of each ice cream, in matters of minutes your ice cream will be freshly made.
Curious to know the science behind the Lab Made Ice cream? Lab Made Ice Creams explains their process.
WHAT IS IT? Nitrogen is a gas that makes up 78% of the air we breathe in. In it’s liquid state, it is extremely cold at-196℃, perfect for freezing our ice creams.
HOW IT WORKS? The longer it takes to to freeze ice cream, the bigger the ice crystals, so the more grainy and icy the texture. Commercial ice creams need at least 10 minutes. At lab-made it only takes 60 seconds. We use extremely cold liquid nitrogen at -196℃ to rapidly freeze our ice creams, resulting in much smaller ice crystals. This gives you the smoothest and creamiest ice cream. This is ice cream re-invented
IS IT SAFE? Nitrogen makes up 70% of the air.We are breathing it in all the time and is harmless to use in our ice creams. At it’s liquid state, nitrogen is still colourless and odourless so it doesn’t affect the quality of our ice creams.
However liquid nitrogen is extremely cold and can cause freeze burns if not handled properly. Don’t try this at home!
