Greetings from Chicago!!
After taking 15 days off from traveling it was time to go back on the road for more work and adventures. The time off was a much needed break because I was physically and mentally exhausted after a few back to back long haul flights and my last trip to Hong Kong via Dallas Forth Worth with American Airlines. As we all know or most of you know, traveling can be demanding and very tiring even if we are flying premium cabin. I arrived to Los Angeles International Airport 4 hours before my flight and I made my way to the Admirals Club to get some work done. I was excited to be back at the airport and resume to my travels. The First Class check in agent at American Airlines T4 was fast and friendly as well.
One thing I noticed yesterday as I made my way towards security is that the TSA Pre Check line was a complete mess, it’s normally not like that when I take the first flights out but this flight was an afternoon departure and security was just a mess. A combination of regular passengers, priority access and TSA Pre check passengers, I don’t know what it was or what were they doing but the process was long and tedious as some of the passengers were confused on what to do, what to keep on their bags and of course, some of them were removing their shoes.
Fast forward a few hours, it was time to board my flight which was on time with the inbound coming in from Chicago. Flight number 1060 inbound – I was aboard flight number 1278 departing Los Angeles at 5:45pm.
The Boarding process was rather fast and it began with the First Class passengers. First time I decided to select a Window seat and I was sitting 4F. Once on board, I was greeted by the friendly flight attendant known as Brian, he was class act. I also noticed that the aircraft was brand new, fresh interior, LED and mood lighting throughout the cabin and of course, the new plane smell but surprised it didn’t have in flight entertainment on the seats none the less, it has overhead TV screens throughout the cabin.
The Captain came on the PA to welcome us on board and to let us know our estimated time of arrival into Chicago. We were number 2 for take off and shortly after we were airborne. One thing I love about afternoon departures at LAX is the amount of heavies leaving to their destinations, I was in AVGeek heaven prior taxiing and during take off. The take off roll was powerful and the climb out was fairly bumpy as we took off right after a 747 aircraft. Our flight time was 3 hours and 21 minutes.
The ride was going to be fairly choppy due to weather so the seat belt sign was on for the during of the flight. Shortly after we reached our initial cruising altitude, the service on board began. Brian the flight attendant working the first class cabin started to pass the warm towels. He began to take drink orders from row 6 of the cabin and working his way down the rows. As he took the drink orders he would bring American Airlines signature hot mixed nuts as well, and they were better than ever.
Pre meal snack: Hot mixed nuts & my drink of choice, Ginger Ale.
As we flew over the Grand Canyon, Brian started taking dinner orders. One of the many things I LOVE about American Airlines is that I have the chance of pre-selecting my meal before my flight. Keep in mind this cannot be done 24 hours before your flight, it must be done a few days prior to it. I selected one of their meals which consisted of Chicken with brown rice, carrots and edamame instead of the second option being offered which was Pasta. Brian had my dinner request on his folder and I was enjoying the ride to Chicago while overlooking down on the Grand Canyon.
Shortly after, dinner arrived. It also came with a magnificent and tasty salad along with some shrimp, which was delicious and so fresh!! First time having shrimp on board and according to Brian they have been serving it for quite some time now. Due that I’ve been flying mostly International this year, the meals are completely different when flying Domestic, but I was beyond pleased with my dinner.

After I finished dinner, I didn’t know what to expect or what was next after dinner. As usual, I thought we were going to be offered the warm chocolate chip cookies and I was getting ready to catch some sleep, Brian came around my seat to offer me dessert. The dessert options were: Cheese plate or rocky road ice cream with marshmallow and pecans. Of course, I skipped on the cheese plate and went ahead for the rocky road ice cream, which was also my first time having this on board because normally I would have American Airlines signature ice cream sundae with the variety of toppings you can choose from.

The service on board during dinner was incredible. Brian did not leave my glass empty throughout dinner and made sure I was refilled with my drinks. After dinner I decided to get some shut eye until arrival in Chicago O’Hare. After flying long haul flights throughout the year this short hauls go by fairly quick, I slept for 40 minutes and was woken up by the captain letting us know we were on our descent into Chicago, touching down at 11:21pm with 20 minutes ahead of schedule.
Descending into Chicago O’hare
The landing was smooth and our arrival into the gate didn’t take longer than 10 minutes. Although the flight was fairly bumpy, I truly enjoyed my ride to O’hare last night. It was a great evening flight with excellent crew on board. I made my way towards baggage claim carousel 7 and my bags were out in matters of minutes.
Chicago O’hare Terminal at 11:25pm.
Bottom line & Final Thoughts
It is always a pleasure flying with American Airlines and getting to experience new things on board. Being an executive platinum and spending most of my time in the air rather than the ground its always exciting being on board and having new things being offered. As I previously mentioned the service on board by Brian was fantastic. The new aircraft 737 was an enjoyable ride and very comfortable, truly loved the mood lighting on board and of course, big props to @GoGo for providing the Wifi on board. I have to give big kudos to them because they were able to help me with my connection that was being very poor mid flight. Their customer service is top notch and they truly care about their customers.

It is exciting to be back to my flying routine. Have you all had any of the dishes I had above? If so, what were your thoughts?
