On July 16, 2014 I embarked on my journey to Hong Kong with American Airlines. I was a media guest to test their new service from Dallas International Airport to Hong Kong International Airport. Opinions and thoughts are my own.
In addition The Hong Kong Tourism Board accommodated my attractions during my visit to experience some of the unique things that Hong Kong offers for the tourist
The Hong Kong Series
One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to try new food – During my first visit to Hong Kong during the month of April I didn’t have enough time to try some of the best restaurants of Hong Kong and of course more of their signature dishes. Fast forwards a few months later and I was back in Hong Kong to work with American Airlines and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, it was exciting because I didn’t know what to expect – I just knew there was a lot to do and cover during my 48 hour trip to Hong Kong. One of the evenings during my stay the media facilitator took us to a place called Mott32 which is one of Hong Kong most popular dining place.
Before I begin to discuss my experience at Mott 32 – I wanted to share with you all their philosophy behind the name and of course their primary style of cooking on behalf from the Mott 32 staff.
Mott 32 is named after 32 Mott Street in New York. 32 Mott Street was NYC’s first Chinese convenience store, which opened in 1851, and was the nucleus for what is now a vibrant Chinatown in one of the most dynamic cities in the World. Mott 32 is a celebration of Hong Kong culture and cuisine, which thanks to the bravery of families, such as those who left Hong Kong in 1851 to open 32 Mott St., is now a global food phenomenon.
Our cooking is principally Cantonese with some signature Sichuan and Beijing dishes. Our custom industrial duck oven and special air-drying duck fridge is a central feature of the restaurant. We roast ducks both in the Cantonese and Beijing method with our Peking Duck only available for dinner and by pre order only.Mott 32 is a design collaboration between Maximal Concepts & Joyce Wang. Maximal Concepts is a Hong Kong company well known for their awarded restaurants such as Brickhouse and Blue Butcher.
We pair our cooking with innovative cocktails and an extensive sake and global wine collection. Our hope is that you will feel at home in Mott 32, enjoying farm to table cooking in a vibrant atmosphere that reflects the energy, creativity and passion of Hong Kong.
When arriving to Mott32 you will check in with the hostess and let them know your reservation time. I recommend you arrive at the time of your reservation without being late because due that it’s such a busy restaurant they are always on the move to accommodate those wanting to visit and dine in at the facility. The staff was very friendly and attentive, once they have found your name on the reservation list they will walk you to the restaurant which is on the first floor guided by a large staircase with a beautiful waterfall coming down on the right hand side of the building.
Once you reached the final step of the staircase you will get to experience a one of a kind restaurant with an incredible atmosphere. I expected it to be calm and quiet but boy, was I wrong? I loved the vibe of the restaurant. There was a lot of tourist and of course plenty of locals as well enjoying a bite to eat. The restaurant definitely has a heavy flow of staff members walking from one side to another making sure everything is running properly along by meeting their guests needs and wants. Music was playing which made the environment even better, not too loud but just enough to hear the beat while enjoying the evening. To the right hand side of the stairs you will find the bar where they feature endless amount of wine and their signature cocktails. Very well organized and with great sitting available.

Before I began with dinner, I decided to order one of their signature cocktails. Mott 32 is known for their cocktails as well, so I would recommend trying at least one of them because its a must try and something definitely not to miss out on. I went ahead and ordered their cocktail known as: Mott St. Cooler
Zubrowka Vodka / Madagascar Vanilla Syrup / Szechuan Chilli / Ginger / Apple
My menu for the evening reads as follow
Now into the meals – Let me begin by saying that the fixed menu selection was simply incredible. I did not arranged this menu but it was done by my tour guide – I was not picky about the food and I was definitely looking forward to trying something new that I haven’t had before. Prior to the meals coming, the waiters introduced themselves and welcome us into Mott 32 and made themselves available for anything we needed during our visit, they were all super attentive and caring, which I am not surprised because everyone I have met in Hong Kong has been nothing but short of amazing.
1) Cold Free Mango Chicken
2) Deep Fried Diced Cod Fillet, Golden Garlic and Spiced Fillet
3) Barbecue Prime Iberico Pork with yellow Mountain Honey
The Starters were simply incredible and the cooking process took some time but not very long – As soon as I was done with one dish, the next one would come around – although the waiters asked multiple times if we needed a “break” from eating and to let them know when we would like the next dish. By the third starter, I was already stuffed and more food was on the way. After the starters, we proceeded to the main courses – I will only be sharing the unique dishes I had on the list and let you all know my feedback on them as well.
1) Aged black vinegar Sweet and Sour pork
2) Stir Fried Prawns. Pumpkin, salty eggs
3) Black Cod. Potato. Chilli. Garlic & Spring Onion
The 3 main courses I shared above were my absolute favorite and were something unique I haven’t had before. The photos don’t do justice to how big the portions were but all of it tasted simply incredible. Zero complaints and I was extremely pleased with these dishes. Furthermore, the main courses did take a little longer than the starters because more cooking and preparing is required – the servers did an excellent job on timing the meal delivery as well. Now lets move into the grand finale.
The Grand Finale – Desserts
1) Green Tea coated chocolate mouse
2) Mott’s Amber – Osmanthus Flower, Wolfberry
Bottom Line & Final thoughts:
Dining at Mott 32 is an unforgettable experience – The first thing that caught my attention was the incredible customer service upon arriving into the venue. Furthermore, the ambience of the restaurant was fascinating, everything was so well organized and the staff on duty were all so attentive and caring. The fixed menu that my tour guide planned without me recommending anything was perfect, all of the dishes were to die for and the service provided by the waiters was top notch. The signature cocktail I had from Mott 32 was also very unique and different but also very refreshing, something I haven’t had before so I truly enjoyed it. If you are visiting Hong Kong in the near future, I would highly recommend visiting this wonderful restaurant to experience some fine dining. I am looking forward to being back in Hong Kong in the near future and visit Mott 32 again, it has become one of my favorite all time favorite restaurants and again…. DONT MISS OUT on visiting while in Hong Kong! 😉
From the words of Mott 32: “Mott 32 is one of the best best restaurants in Hong Kong with signature dishes from dim sum to Peking duck. Mott 32 offers dim sum daily.”
