Throughout the month of July and August I spent 17 days around Spain for my Summer trip in Europe. My first stop was Barcelona, followed by Ibiza, Granada and finishing in Cordoba then back to Barcelona for the rest of the trip. Barcelona is one of my favorite destinations in Europe because of the lifestyle, the food, the people and everything it offers. One of the things I was looking forward to the most was to finally eat some delicious tapas because it has been quite a while since I’ve had them and if you have been to Spain you are aware that they are known for their tapas and delicious eats. I am a foodie type of person because I love to try new food at all the destinations I visit, mainly to discover something new and try something different than I haven’t had before.
One of the places I was recommended to the most even by the locals was Cerveceria Catalana – which is one of the most popular restaurants in Barcelona known for their delicious tapas and style of serving. One of the passengers on my flight from Miami to Barcelona who lives in Barcelona recommended me to go and try it out and of course, I couldn’t leave without trying it. This is a restaurant that generated its buzz and popularity by word of mouth because the owner refuses to create a website and market it like other restaurant chains do for their restaurants. The wait time for a table was long and every time I would go dine in here because I went more than once it was super crowded with a few calm hours mid afternoon which is to be expected but for the most part it was always crowded ranging to 1 hour or 2 hour wait time for a table but it is worth the wait.
Cerveceria Catalana Main Entrance
Before I begin to discuss my thoughts on the restaurant – I am going to begin my sharing with you all the floor plan and seating sections for the restaurant. They feature a large section to eat inside the restaurant and also a bar where you can sit at as well. They also have a patio outside where you can sit. I didn’t sit outside because it was rather hot during my visit – so I preferred to sit inside and enjoy the AC. Sitting at the bar has more of a personal approach with you and the server where your dish will come to you faster than sitting at a table and your drinks will also be delivered faster. However, the patio outside only has sitting for two people so if you are coming with a big group, the sitting inside would be best and more comfortable as well.

Bar Section at Cerveceria Catalana
Within the bar section you will find the white board where some text is written – They are simply featuring their dishes of the day and specialities for the day because each day there is a new dish on the menu which is another fantastic touch that Cerveceria Catalana has. Within the bar section you will also be able to see the wine selection and request it to the server either to try or to simply enjoy the wine you have selected to drink. They have a large section of wines, beers, sangrias and cocktails and they were all fascinating.
Now that I have covered two of the most important factors – Now lets move on to the inside sitting of the restaurant which was my favorite section of the restaurant. They feature all types of sitting for the visitors. Large group tables, single tables, groups of 4 and beyond and the service I felt that it was much better as well since they are multiple servers walking around taking orders, from the photos I will be sharing below – you get an idea how crowded this place gets during the evening when the wait time for a table is almost 2 hours long.

Drinks at Cerveceria Catalana
The drink selection at Cerveceria Catalana were fantastic – They offer a large selection of cocktails, wines and beers as I mentioned above. If you are a fan of sangria, I would highly recommend ordering the sangria – they come in different sizes so if you are going with a large group of people and would like to share, order the large one. During my first which was the day I arrived in Barcelona I decided to have a beer with zero alcohol and on my second visit I had a large Sangria pitcher and I truly enjoyed it. You won’t be disappointed with the drinks menu.
The Food at Cerveceria Catalana
Needless to say the food at the restaurant was simply delicious even with all the visitors at the restaurant the food didn’t take very long to arrive and the service was excellent. The restaurant has an intense menu and I tried their best and signature dishes. You won’t have a problem finding something you like as pretty much everything on the menu is to die for. Besides the regular menu, they will also leave you a mini menu with the specialties for the day which means, those dishes are only served on a particular day so take advantage of those dishes if you see something you like. For the most part the dishes are fairly small and they can be shared with a group and some dish can be big – it all depends what type of dish you decide to order. Another thing I liked about Cerveceria Catalana is that they also offer a sample platter mix which is a big dish with a variety of food included and I recommend that if you’re wanting to try more dishes at once. Down below, I will be sharing some of the food I ordered during my visit and my favorite ones – during my 2 visits I had too much great food from this place and I was not disappointed on any of my choices.
Now that I have shared with you all the most important factors of this incredible restaurant – I will be wrapping it up by sharing my thoughts on the service, overall ambience, pricing and overall experience.
- Service: The service I received during my visits were simply incredible from the hostess upon arrival and to the servers. They were all super friendly and attentive and their attention to detail was great. The servers came to the table multiple times to make sure everything was ok and to see if I wanted to order anything else. My drinks were constantly refilled without me asking to refill and I find that to be amazing. The servers are extremely fast with their service and will do anything to accommodate your needs and wants.
- Pricing: The restaurant is not expensive at all and you can have a feast of food and pay very little money. Thats something i love about dining at tapas restaurants because you can order multiple plates, share with friends, have a bite of every single dish you have ordered and before you know it, you are full. Each visit I made to the restaurant I walked out paying less than 50 Euros and let me tell you, I had a feast of food. For this type of restaurant and their well known reputation in Barcelona I was expecting it to be expensive but I walked out with a completely different mind set.
- Overall experience: My experience was fantastic and I can’t wait to return. Something to keep in mind while being at this restaurant and of course, any other you visit in Spain – always keep your personal items close to you. The reason why is because they are thief’s who can come in at any moment to steal your bags and by thief’s I mean the locals wanting to steal the gals purses or anything that they see its within reach. The restaurant has great security and there is nothing to worry about but to be safe always your belongings close to you.
Have you all been to Barcelona? And have you visited Cerveceria Catalana?
