Greetings from Los Angeles!
After spending two weeks on the road traveling within South Korea and shortly making my way to New York City, I am back in Los Angeles for a month before my around the world trip to the Middle East, Australia and Japan. Within the next few installments I will have some great content about my recent trip regarding transportation, tourist attractions, trip reports and hotel coverage and covering some of the most important things to keep in mind during your upcoming trip to South Korea. On Today’s blog post, I will be covering my flight from New York City to Los Angeles on American Airlines, departing New York City at 6:00am as AA171. This won’t be a detailed trip report but mainly covering the breakfast menu, the refreshments available and overall flight experience and what to expect. Menu options are subject to change but if you happen to get the same menu I did on your flight, I hope you find this helpful on your next trip.
I was departing from gate 5 and shortly after clearing security I made my way to the nearest Admirals Club which is the one I normally use when traveling International as it also offers the Flagship Lounge. I was the only one at the lounge for some time and slowly but surely a few travelers were arriving into the lounge. It was an early departure out of John F Kennedy and boarding was schedule to begin at 5:30am.
After spending about 25 minutes at the lounge I made my way to the gate to wait for the boarding process to begin and it started right on time. The load of the flight was minimal though First Class was half full and Business Class was full. I took this flight on a Sunday morning so it was a slow day of flying compared to my Monday and Tuesday departures. The agents working the gate were friendly and attentive and I was shortly on my way into the aircraft, being one of the very first ones to board. If you are not aware yet – the aircraft American uses for this route is their new airbus A321T – I’ve flown this aircraft a handful a times and was fortunate to check it out at LAX before it began service and shortly after I flew first class from JFK-LAX. You can read those installments here and here.
I was booked Business Class for this flight and my upgraded cleared 4 days out before departure which it was nice.
The boarding process was super fast as the load was light on this flight. Once everyone was aboard the front door was shut and the cabin was being prepared for take off. We had a slight delay out of JFK due to a small mechanical fix up, throughout that time the FA’s came by the cabin to introduce themselves and take breakfast orders. The cabin crew was excellent as they were attentive and super friendly. Shortly after the captain came on the PA to introduce himself and to let us know of our flight time, flight path and estimated time of arrival and to apologize for the slight delay which in reality took about 10 minutes to get fixed so it was not a major deal to begin with.
As I have shared on my previews blogs, I like to pre-order my meals well in advanced but I figured of sharing with you all the menu option for this flight as it was a breakfast segment.
American Airlines 171 – Business Class JFK To LAX.
Our take off was rather bumpy due to strong head winds out of JFK. Flight attendants were required to be on their seat for longer than usual after departure. After about 20 minutes or so, the were up around the cabin to start getting things ready for breakfast. Also, prior to departure they also walked around the cabin offering Bose noise canceling head sets, I passed on the offer since I have my own pair and keep in mind those are collected at least 40 minutes or so before arrival.
The crew came by the cabin fairly fast to take drink orders and it didn’t take very long for them to finish that phase of the service. I requested some apple juice and the lunetta prosecco sparkling wine, which was really good and refreshing. Shortly after the cabin crew came by to deliver breakfast and the process was flawless as they were two cabin crew members within the cabin serving the passengers in Business class. My choice for breakfast was the Gruyere and Fontina Cheese omelet with mushrooms, I’ve had this dish before and as you can see it’s pretty simple.
American Airlines 171 – JFK To LAX breakfast.
Throughout breakfast the cabin crew were constantly walking around making sure all the needs and wants of the passengers were taken care of and she constantly refilled my drinks without asking. Great service by the crew. Once finished with breakfast, she collected my tray and I was off to sleep for the rest of the flight – one of the best sleeps on board I’ve had and sleeping on this aircraft is never a problem as the business class seat is spacious, lie flat and comfortable.
If you are flying Business class, one your seat you will find the following amenity kit which brings you socks, eye shades, lip balm, lotion and ear plugs.
A very quick flight of 5 hours and 24 minutes compare to my long haul of 15 hours a week before taking this flight. Overall, the service was outstanding and flying coast to coast on American’s A321T is always an absolute joy and pleasure, because of the comfort and amenities it offers. The crew were great as well.
If you are flying this route anytime soon, I hope you find this blog post helpful on what to expect on your flight from New York to Los Angeles. If you have gotten a different menu before on this route – be sure to share with me your experience and what the options were.
