Yesterday afternoon I had several meetings around Santa Monica area here in Los Angeles. Shortly after a quick break from meetings and work related duties it was time for lunch time. Before I was going to go out of my way to purchase lunch somewhere else I remembered I had a $25 dollar credit on my uber app for UberFresh which is now a new system being offered by Uber. You can use this feature if its available in your town. It is listed on the uber app as in “Eats”.
NOTE: The uber eats feature doesn’t show once I arrive home but it shows when I am around commercial areas with heavy traffic of participating restaurants that have partnered up with uber to offer this one of a kind service which I found to be super practical but it’s also not on the cheap side since you get charged for a few different things but thanks to the credit my bill turned out to be $0 and I gained 19 Starpoints with the SPG since I currently have a reservation booked for June – which also brings me to the topic that SPG & uber has a partnership together as well.
As you noticed on the app – They are different view menu options – I believe those are options you can select from to receive a different menu and food options. Next time I order something else, I will have to experiment that feature.
Moving on – it was time to call the driver and request my meal – here is the process behind this feature and how to do it.
Step 1: Set up your location & the place where you would like your food to be delivered.
Step 2: Click where it says “View Menu” the options for the food being currently offered will show up and you will be able to just click what you want along with the type of drink you would like to have (it’s not mandatory) but if you want to have a refreshment they offer that as well.
Step 3: Before you call the driver a screen will pop up so you can review your meal order once you are done reviewing your order, you can then proceed to request the driver, just like you would normally do when requesting an UberX,UberBlack, etc and shortly once the request has been accepted – the driver will be on its way to deliver the meal. My driver was near by and it only took about 5 minutes for it to be delivered. It was delivered in a Cadillac Escalated and verified by Uber driver.
Driver accepted the delivery – now en route.
The driver arriving to the destination
Meal Delivered – I selected the Sandwich as I wanted something simple.
Step 4: Rate your driver and how he handled the delivery process. In this case my driver was friendly, attentive and made sure I had everything I needed. My meal was in great condition, tasty and fresh. I gave him a 5 star rating. The meals are kept in a secure compartment to keep them either hot or cold – something similar to what Pizza drivers have on their vehicles.
Thoughts on the meal options: The meal options were great and unique. They aren’t fast food like options such as burgers, pizza, etc. Uber is actually focusing on offering healthy options for others to choose from. For example: Dinner time options while I was in Hollywood area were rather unique such as a chicken Cesar salad, noodles or vegetarian pasta with a choice of drink like natural ice tea. It is a great feature but again leaning towards being sort of pricey. For $19.35 I could have gotten a much bigger meal at a cheaper price than what Uber charges at Fresh Corn grill or Tender Greens.
Here is a breakdown of my bill & the charges.
I do like the concept of things and what uber is doing. For the times I am swamped with meetings and not wanting to get out in the town to eat and just have it delivered straight to me this is a great concept. I would like to try the dinner option next time and see if it’s any better than the lunch options. The convince of this concept is what wins big time and can make this service very lucrative for Uber as it saves time for a lot of people during their work hours.
Have you used this service recently? If so, what were your thoughts and what did you order?
