This year I have traveled through John F Kennedy Airport a handful of times, some of the flights have required me to stay in JFK until the next day so I can catch my next flight. Finding a convenient, comfortable airport hotel was the priority during this scenario. As an SPG (Starwood preferred elite guest) I wanted to see if there was any SPG properties around and there sure was one, which is the Sheraton JFK airport hotel which is just 2 miles away from the airport. We all have our favorite airports depending each scenario so on those days that I am required to stay in New York within airport distance this is the one for me.
On Today’s blog I will share with you all my stay and what this hotel offers. The hotel was recently renovated so the rooms have gotten a fresh new look and I was excited to try it out and see what changes have been made. Here is some information about the hotel just for your reference incase you decide to visit this property.
Sheraton JFK Airport Hotel
Address: 132-26 S Conduit Ave, Jamaica, NY 11430
Lets begin the coverage – Keep in mind, opinions and thoughts are my own.
After an easy flight of 5 hours from Los Angeles (LAX) to John F Kennedy (JFK). I arrived into JFK around 1pm in the afternoon. Keep in mind the hotel offers a courtesy shuttle bus pick up, though the shuttle doesn’t pick you up curbside like the rest of the shuttles do. You are required to take the metro to Jamaica station where the shuttle bus pick up is along with the rest of the rental car companies are. The shuttle pick up was confusing because no shuttle bus came around with the name Sheraton, rather a Hilton shuttle bus came around and collected the guest who were also staying at the property, so be aware of that and keep your eyes peeled.
After arriving into the hotel – I was greeted by the friendly staff members, as an SPG elite I chose the starpoints as my welcome amenity and shortly after I was on my way. I was assigned floor #6 which is a non-smoking floor and the Starwood preferred guest floor.
Sheraton JFK Airport Hotel – Floor #6
From the elevators I took a sharp turn and my room was located all the way down. Which I am not really a fan of but for a one night stay, I didn’t care much of it. The rooms on the corners tend to have horrible views and can be next to the stairs, which tend to be noisy at different hours of the day. Though the halls were well kept and clean, with no bad odors roaming around.
Within the floor you will be able to find your typical vending machine as well as your ice machine.
For some reason, it was a busy time during my time in New York and no upgrades were available and I was totally fine with that. All I needed was a comfortable room to sleep and relax. I was assigned the deluxe room and I was pleased with what I was given. The room was in great condition and it shows the renovation being made, from the furniture, to the design and the simple amenities and things added into the room. One thing I really like about the Sheraton is that they usually place the “Go Green tag” on your bedding, which I always apply for to receive those extra starpoints, which in my book those are very valuable.
Sheraton JFK Deluxe Room – Overview.
The room set up was simple but very well organized.
Sheraton Deluxe room – working desk.
Within reach of the bed there was a working desk with complimentary water, coffee machine and complimentary tea. Mounted to the wall there was a tv with a variety of channels to choose from. The wifi in the room was also free of charge.
Complimentary waters and coffee.
Within the room you will also find a pretty big closet where the safe box is and several Sheraton items can be found. The safe box worked just fine and the closet was spacious enough to fit my carry on and clothes.
Sheraton JFK Deluxe – Bathroom
Normally, the lower end Sheraton Hotels have a tendency of having tiny bathrooms and their appearances tend to be pretty run down. However, the bathroom on this particular room looked to be in great working condition and well kept. I am guessing of their main renovations was the bathroom as it shows that it definitely had a face lift. Nothing to really point out from it as it was a standard bathroom with no bath tub but just a simple shower. You will find your typical toiletries and hair dryer. The shower pressure was great and it maintained the hot water with no problems.
The hotel was quite generous with the amount of towels they leave in the restroom. Nothing bugs me more than a hotel that leaves you a short amount of towels in the room.
Sheraton JFK Bottom line
The hotel was simple and met my expectations. While it was simple, the customer service from the hotel was top notch and everyone was very friendly and attentive. The room was comfortable to sleep and though I was assigned the last room in the corner, I barely had any noise bothering me throughout the night since I was close to the streets. While its not a convenient hotel if you are wanting to head out to the City, it is very convenient if you are needing to stay in JFK for the day/night before catching your next flight. For me the comfort of having free shuttle service from and to airport is a winner, plus a new renovated hotel that has upgraded their installations is also a win. Don’t expect much out of an airport hotel and keep your expectations to a minimum, a good night of sleep and close to airport wins over anything else.
Would I recommend this hotel to someone? Absolutely if you are needing a good, economical and comfortable place to stay before your next flight.
