Earlier in the year (January) my first International trip of 2015 was Bangkok,Thailand. It was my first time visiting this destination and I was looking forward to visiting it. Bangkok has a little of everything which means you are in for a treat when visiting, but most of all be careful at all times. During my visit to Bangkok I stayed at the luxurious W Bangkok which is a property I will most certainly be coming back to if I was to return. The W Bangkok staff was caring, attentive and friendly, it shows that they have a passion for what they do and they focus on maximizing the guest experience, which for me its a big value when traveling. As an SPG Elite (Starwood Preferred Guest) staying and visiting a new property is always an exciting chapter since reviewing hotels and their amenities is one of my favorite aspects to cover here on the blog.
I have done a few installments on the W Bangkok before, so make sure to visit the following links for more info and to get to know some of the installations of this iconic hotel.
Address: North Sathorn Road, 106 Si Lom, Silom, Bangkok, 10500, Thailand
- W Bangkok – The Kitchen Table Experience.
- W Bangkok – Extreme Wow Suite.
- W Bangkok – Wonderful Room.
- W Bangkok – Fitness Center.
Needless to say, the W Bangkok blew me away upon arrival to the property. It is a beautiful facility that is kept in great condition. The structure of the hotel is unique and the touches on the inside makes the atmosphere even better. The neon color, with the black and great furniture they added compliments the hotel grounds very well. It is one of those properties that I highly recommend for you to visit if you want a mix of luxury, comfort and a one of a kind experience. Throughout my visit I was able to meet fellow executives from the property such as the W Insider, Marketing Team and Sales Team, they were all very friendly and attentive and they also shared the history to the property along with the new things coming soon for them.
Throughout our chat, they offered me a complimentary Spa treatment at their “Away Spa” and I gladly took the offer. I don’t get massages as much as I should do, so the massage came in handy after 35+ hours of flying and I was excited to experience the spa, which looked simply incredible with a whole lot of luxury and guest comfort. Keep in mind, opinions and thoughts about the spa are my own and from my experience.
The day of my massage came and I was very much looking forward to it, you will be able to find the their spa within the pool and fitness center area, located on Floor #6. Once off from the elevators take a sharp left turn and go down the hall and you will find the spa.
Floor #6 (Away Spa, Fitness Center & Wet area).
Once I arrived to the Away Spa, I was kindly greeted by the friendly staff members on duty. They were all attentive and focused on helping the guest feel relaxed. I was given some tea, water and a hot towel as my pre-massage refreshments. The reception area of the spa is beautiful and very soothing with a great deception to go along with.
As I was drinking my tea and refreshing my face with the towel, one of the staff members came to ask me a few questions about myself and about the massage I wanted. Typical before a massage they ask you if you happen to have any pains or body discomfort, how would you like the pressure during your massage and if theres any body parts that you would like more focus on. Nothing much to report here but its common practice and I appreciate that. I requested to have the deep tissue massage which is the one I usually get. Shortly after the quick questions, I was called into the spa facility and upon walking I was blown away by how beautiful the installations were, my massage therapist told me I was booked on the VIP room where I would have my own shower, jacuzzi and relaxing area – which is a much more exclusive experience than a regular massage room. Down below, I will be sharing some of the rooms and installations you will find within the spa, which in my opinion – one of the best I’ve seen as it is very unique and the mood lights wins me over ;).
Away Spa overview – W Bangkok
Upon entering the facility to the left hand side you will find the locker room area, where the guest can get comfortable with the ropes and leave their belongings there. Everything seemed to be well designed and planned to maximize the guest comfort. The light coming in from the outside gives it a relaxing feel as it showcases a lovely view of the City from the Spa.
Down the hall you will find a typical massage room. The guest has the freedom to select the type of lights he would like to have during his massage. Keep in mind each light has a different meaning and what suits best for you and preference. The massage therapist will ask you what color would you like and explain to you the meaning of each, pretty cool concept and something I didn’t experience until my time at the W Bangkok Away Spa. I feel like it adds some value to the guest experience and overall comfort throughout the massage.
Away Spa – Regular Massage room
In addition to their spa rooms within the hallway you will find a steam room and sauna, they both feature a unique lighting experience as well. As I previously mentioned, the Away Spa at the W Bangkok blew me away – their installations is one of the best I’ve seen. You will be able to use the steam room or sauna and you will massage therapist will advice you when. The inside of the Sauna features their relaxing light which is the purple one.

Away Spa – Steam Room
I am personally a big fan of steam room as my body is able to release the tension, pressure and toxics as I start to sweat instantly. Before entering the steam room you will find a few indications not he current temperature and keep in mind to always stay hydrated throughout this process.
VIP Room – Away Spa
Here is the next step towards a one of kind experience and the ultimate luxury or as I say it “When Luxury meets the eyes”. The Team at the W Bangkok booked me the VIP room so I was able to enjoy it, relax and experience this area of their spa. The fact that you have your own spa room is fascinating to me. I particularly like my massages to be exclusive because I treat those as my recovery days after flying, where I want to be completely disconnected from the world and just unwind. This is exactly what I needed after my 35+ hours of flying. The entrance is flawless and you will be able to grab a few towels before entering.
This is one of those rooms where couples go and they are able to share the experience together, though in my case I was solo so I had this big private room to myself. The VIP room features the following.
- Private Shower.
- Private Jacuzzi.
- Relaxing heated stone sitting.
- Private bathroom, closet & another jacuzzi.
- A dedicate massage room with mood lighting.
When entering to the room to the left hand side you will find the massage bed, since I was solo I chose the one nearest to the door. The lights underneath the bed can be change and you can request any color you like – typically the massage therapist will ask you if you would like to change the color. The roof of the spa is unique as it offers a ceiling filling with stars and the aroma of the room was soothing giving that minty odor.
Within the room you will find your private sink but not much of toiletries are being offered. Towels are handy to wash your face if needed.
You will also find the private Spa within the room as it is enclosed and secluded within the room. Endless of toiletries are offered as well – I did not use this but decided to use the other jacuzzi that overlooks great views of the city. This room is huge and I didn’t know where to begin, so I made my choices on what felt best and most comfortable at the time, though this concept is great for couples.
This will be the second jacuzzi you will find within the room – The water wasn’t too warm but just right to get the job done and relax me before my massage. The showers are within the wall. This concept is fantastic and it was one of my favorite installations of the VIP room. I was here for about 10 minutes or so and then my way to the heated stone recliners which prepares my body for the massage, by heated i mean (really hot) so make sure you place some towels on the chairs and wear your rope. The freedom you get here is limitless which really allows you to disconnect and unwind.

They are some side tables offering magazines to read and complimentary waters are also within reach.
W Bangkok Away Spa – Bottom line
My experience at the Away Spa was perfect in every way. There is not one thing I have to point out that they have to improve or add on. The facility is spotless and the staff on duty are class act. They truly care about their guest and making sure everything is running smoothly for them. The VIP room experience was a total surprise as I didn’t know I was booked in it until I arrived, I kept my expectations low and thought I was going to be on the regular massage room and thats about it. The 90 minute treatment was just what I needed and throughout that time the therapist made sure I was pain free and that the pressure was just right.
I highly commend the VIP room for couples since it really is a one kind experience and you are able to enjoy the luxury in privacy giving you both the freedom to connect and most of all, relax. This felt like my home for the time I was there as I had everything I needed right by me. The staff did an excellent job on walking me through the installations and teaching me what every thing is for which is important to know so you are able to take advantage of it to the fullest. I love the way the W Bangkok Away spa promotes their way of welcoming you which is stated below.
