During the month of June I traveled to Abu Dhabi, it was my first time visiting the Middle East and I was very excited to get this destination off from my bucket list of travels. In assistance throughout my trip the Abu Dhabi Tourism board accommodated some of my attractions so I was able to visit some of the popular attractions of Abu Dhabi. Needless to say, it was an incredible trip where I was able to meet new people and create new friendships and of course, being able to connect with the local culture. Before I begin Today’s installment I will be sharing with you all down below some of the attractions I went on during my visit, so you are able to get my point of view and feedback on it. They are several other attractions I wasn’t able to do which I am looking forward on doing on my next visit to Abu Dhabi, so I will report back on those after my adventure.
As a Starwood Preferred Guest elite, it is always a pleasure being able to stay at new properties I haven’t stayed before. Once I saw Le Meridien Abu Dhabi throughout my hotel hunting phase prior to the trip, I didn’t hesitate to book this property. It has everything I look for and need during a trip. The first thing that caught my eye was the beach being that I am sea fanatic, the pool looked incredible and the property in general was unique, being one of the oldest properties yet maintaining a high level of reputation within Abu Dhabi. I will be sharing with you my thoughts on the property and its amenities along with sharing with you what the new room design that Le Meridien has developed since they are going under room renovation and I was fortunate to stay at one of the newest rooms of the property.
Keep in mind, opinion and thoughts are my own.
Le Meridien Abu Dhabi Main Entrance
Tourist Club Area · Abu Dhabi, 46066 · United Arab Emirates
Upon arrival to the property, the kind bell men and staff greeted me, grabbed my belongings and directed me to the check-in counter of the property. The service was top notch and they were all very attentive. Upon entering the hotel I was surprised to see the decoration and the style of the hotel on the inside. It is one of those hotels that when you enter gives you a boost of excitement, open air, lots of sitting available and a rich yet simple decoration that doesn’t make you feel that you can barely walk around the grounds of the hotel. Everyone greeted me and welcomed me to the property. You will also notice that the staff loves what they do as they are willing to accommodate your needs and wants the best they can. They are there to serve you and make your experience memorable and unforgettable. The lobby area was clean and well kept.
Le Meridien Abu Dhabi – Lobby area
As per usual with all SPG properties, you have your regular check-in area and then you have your elite check-in counter where Gold and Platinum members are able to check in. If that particular check-in area is busy and others check-in counters are free, they can also help you with what you need and check you in. The staff is well trained and their expertise doesn’t go unnoticed. As an SPG member I selected my Starpoints as a welcome amenity and I was also given a free drink voucher to claim.
The lobby of the hotel was one of my favorite installations, the open air feel has always been something I love about hotels and this is something that Le Meridien Abu Dhabi offers. There is plenty of seating being available for the guest as well. Within the lobby area of the hotel you will find one of their popular restaurants known as “The Latest Recipe” which I had the pleasure to had breakfast at during my visit. Aside from that, you will also find the coffee shop so you are able to enjoy some good coffee and pastries. Everything was well designed and the atmosphere was comfortable. Souvenir shops are also within the lobby incase you would like to purchase something that will remind you of Abu Dhabi.
Within the lobby ground you will also find the concierge and guest service desk where they can assist you for any questions you may have.
Le Meridien Abu Dhabi – Ground floor seating
If you are traveling with a large group of friends or business colleagues this particular area of the hotel is more spacious and offers a bigger seating selection for the guest, it is also right next to the restaurant and coffee shop. It is perfectly designed and the chairs and couches were super comfortable.
Le Meridien Abu Dhabi – Deluxe Room: 2 Single Beds
Now that I have covered the grounds of the hotel – Lets move on into the most important aspect, the room. From the title of the blog you may be saying “New Room Design?” – Yes, Le Meridien Abu Dhabi its currently going under room renovation and giving their rooms a total refresh and new look. During my stay I was fortunate to get a sneak peak of the new design, not only that – I was also able to stay in the room during my visit. I was located on the 3rd floor of the property with a City View, though I am a big fan of Ocean View but for the time being and getting to see the new room look I was thrilled to share this with you all and being one of the first to experience the renovation being made. It was quite a walk to my room from the elevator so if you are ever booked in this room, be prepared to walk as it’s not very close from the elevators and it also very secluded. The room has a double bed which in my case the second bed is useless being that I am solo traveler, so I tend to use that second bed to lay out my clothes for the next day. I was assigned room number 305.
Emergency Floor Plan – Le Meridien Abu Dhabi
Upon entering to the room I was impressed by it and the installations, it was simple yet very well laid out. To be honest with you, it even had the “new room smell”, if that even makes sense to you. It had a similar vibe to my room in Los Angeles so I was slowly but surely getting use to it. I was given one of the best – if not the best Welcome Amenity I have ever had, they truly go far and beyond to make their guest feel special. Everything I love and eat in one picture, a complete sin but I ate it all within two days.
Lets start covering the room, shall we? 😉
Deluxe Room: 2 Single Beds.
The beds in the room were extremely comfortable. I am extremely picky when it comes to bedding, mattress and pillows but I can honestly say that the bed in the room was extremely comfortable and cozy. It was my spot for my mid day naps and a good night of sleep after a day of adventure. The pillows are the perfect size and also very comfortable. I am not a fan of hotels who offer pillows that look like squares and you are constantly struggling to get comfortable. There was not a day I woke up in discomfort or in pain, so the beds in the room get my two thumbs up.
Housekeeping got creative and left a flamingo made of towels on the second bed of the room, very cool design and a nice tough from them.
Within the beds you will find night stand tables with several information about the hotel and with your typical telephone to make calls to the front desk, room service and any other services within the property. There was also a note pad to take some notes if needed. The table has a cool function that it swivels if you need to be closer to you or further away from you.
Right next to the bed you will find the power switches to turn the lights on and off, along with the charging plugs to connect your devices. This is yet another incredible well design that they thought of. As I am one of those that likes to keep my phone close to me when I am laying in bed.
Aside from the bed you will also find a working desk with great lighting as well. I barely used the working desk as I am one of those who prefer to work on a lounge chair and the room surprised me when I saw my favorite lounge chair in the world which I happen to have at my house as well. If you are a frequent flyer, this chair will bring you memories from several airport lounges – like the Flagship Lounge for American Airlines at John F Kennedy International Airport. I loved the chair and the working desk was big enough as well to leave my personal items and belongings on it.
Next to the working desk you will find a table with key information you should keep in mind about the hotel and a bonus coupon with a free coffee on the house. For those coffee fanatics don’t forget to grab your coupon code and claim it. Each pamphlet will disclose info about the hotel, dining menu and security information to keep in mind. It is worth a read so you get familiar with the area and property.
The TV placement was perfect as there was no furniture around it, as it seemed to be mounted to the wall. This limits the use of more furniture within the room leaving the area to be more spacious and comfortable to walk around.
To the left hand side of the TV you will find an area to place your belongings, sort of like a shelve. It was convenient to place my briefcase and several clothing items.
In room refreshments and mini bar – The hotel gives you complimentary water and you will also find a coffee machine to make your coffee in the morning. I am a big fan of making my coffee in the morning because I have my ways of doing it. This is also complimentary and housekeeping will restock the coffee daily when they make your room. An important factor here is the water, you can never have enough water so they place about 4 bottles of water – I tend to drink a lot of water, specially during high temperature so they came in handy during my stay, you can always request more if needed and the hotel will gladly accommodate your request.
Coffee machine & complimentary waters
Aside from the complimentary waters, the room also offers a pretty complete mini bar. I tend to shy away from in room mini bars, mainly because as you are aware, they tend to be pricey – from time to time I could dig into a refreshment of the mini bar but rarely ever I grab something from it. For those who are extensive on using the mini bar, everyday a staff member of the property will come check if you have taken anything from it, which is common practice now a days. I experienced this a handful of times while I was in my room during noon, you cannot avoid it so just be aware of getting your door knocked on and getting asked if you have consumed anything – this helps them keep track of it and re-stock if needed.
Mini bar refreshments and snacks
Moving on the bathroom of the room.
The deluxe bathroom of the room was simple yet very well kept. They were minor things within the sink that needed some touch ups as the paint seemed to be lifted up. However the restroom had everything I needed and I was satisfied with it. Behind the door of the restroom you will have a rope to use during your stay, the typical touch from Le Meridien and I love that. The restroom wasn’t on the big size yet reasonable and being that I am a solo traveler, it was more than enough. They are plenty of towels in the room so running out of towels shouldn’t be an issue.
As I previously stated, complimentary waters are always around. The housekeeping staff member will leave you waters in the restroom as well. The toiletries you get are your typical lotion, soap, shampoo and conditioner along with a bar of soap to wash your hands.
The shower of the restroom was great and delivered a great pressure. Quickly to get hot when turned on. More towels can be found inside the shower as well.
If you would like some privacy in your room, you can simply touch the button and the housekeeping team will know not to disturb you. You also have an option to request the housekeeping to wait which is a nice touch as well. The housekeeping staff are very attentive and caring as they constantly asked me if everything was ok in the room. They don’t knock on your door when the sign says “Do not disturb” which is refreshing because there is nothing more annoying than getting your door knocked when you are sleeping. To the left hand side of the indicators are the light switch to turn the lights on or off in the hall of the room.
Le Meridien Abu Dhabi – Deluxe Room: 2 Single Beds, bottom line
Needless to say, I was extremely satisfied with the room and I thought that Le Meridien Abu Dhabi went far and beyond with the simple yet elegant design of the room. The room has a city view which shows the busy streets of Abu Dhabi keeping the noise in the streets to zero, which is also great. The beds were comfortable, the amenities of the room were great and everything it offered was state of the art. The in room internet was also a big bonus since I was able to catch up on a lot of work and it got the job done without hiccups.
As I mentioned earlier on the post – I prefer a room with an ocean view, because I am a sea guy and waking up in the morning with a sunrise over the sea is my favorite, specially when my room offers a balcony to relax and unwind. Who wouldn’t want to wake up with a view like this when you are on the 3rd or 4th floor of the property?
They are a lot of more things I will be covering from Le Meridien Abu Dhabi in the near future. To wrap things up, you won’t be disappointed when visiting the property as the customer service goes a long way here as they make it a top priority to deliver the best service possible.
