While I am in Los Angeles I tend to go on hotel missions to visit properties I haven’t stayed before – As a Platinum Preferred Guest I am always keen to visit hotels within my neighborhood I haven’t yet stayed before. Throughout the year I have spent more time in hotels than in my own house and it truly feels like hotels have become my “primary home”. Last week I stayed at the Sheraton Agoura Hills which is tucked in within the Santa Monica Mountains, fairly close to Malibu Beach and several other attractions. The SPG also introduced a new system which is the “SPG Exclusive Rate” and for a one night stay I booked the room for $138 with a suite upgraded due to my status with the SPG with breakfast and dinner included since having access to the Club Lounge of the hotel, which is one of my favorite amenities of the Sheraton Hotels.
Upon arrival to the hotel I was greeted by the friendly agent named Will – Within minutes I was checked in and he upgraded me to the Suite Room and he quickly mentioned, you will really like your room. His customer service was stellar and the property was very well kept. The lobby was simple yet in great condition.
It is worth noting that the parking at the hotel is free of charge and as disclosure, the hotel isn’t responsible of anything that happens to your car while in the premises. Though, it is a very safe and comfortable area and security is always roaming around to make sure things are running properly. But can’t beat free parking now a days since majority of the hotels have some sort of parking fee that can add up fairly quickly within a 2-3 night stay. Incase you are wondering some of the amenities you get as a Platinum Preferred Member with Starwood, see below and keep in mind Suite Upgrades is a standard procedure when they are rooms available to upgrade you on.
I was assigned room #438 which is a standard suite at the Sheraton Agoura Hills with views of the pool only. There was no other view from the living room or the master bedroom but I don’t mind that because the property its truly secluded within the mountains so it was truly not a big deal to me. Upon entering to my room I was pleased with what I saw and how spacious it was. Of course, it cannot be compared to some of the incredible suites I’ve stayed at the St.Regis Doha or Le Meridien Dubai or W Bangkok, but it did the trick for a one night stay and for a complimentary upgrade, there is no need to complain here, at the end of the day a suite is a suite ;).
SHERATON AGOURA HILLS SUITE OVERVIEW
Via Starwood: “Our Executive Suite is elegantly furnished with everything you need to feel at home away from home. Entertain guests in style in a parlor room with pull out couch, watch in-room movies on 2 televisions, and wash the day away in a large bathroom w/ two sinks, oversize tub, bathrobes, and a separate shower. A balcony is available in some suites.”
Within the living room area you will also be able to find a pantry with a sink and microwave which may come in handy for some and underneath you will find a fridge as well to keep the refreshments chilled.
Within the living room you will find a working desk where it provides information about the room and the hotel amenities along with wifi information for internet connectivity. Within the working desk you will find water for purchase for a fee of $3.00 but you can gladly skip paying that as you will most likely have complimentary water waiting for you. In this case, the free water was right next to the TV stand where the coffee machine was and you can request as much water as you may need and it will be delivered straight to your room or you can visit the Club Lounge for any other refreshments like sodas, juices, coffee or tea.
Coffee machine and complementary water.
The master bedroom was simple and cozy and the bed was super comfortable. As per usual, next to bed you will find your night stand tables with a variety of things at your finger tips. At the right hand side of the bed you will find the following: A Charging port where you can also connect via USB, the make a green choice card which I highly recommend doing for those extra Starpoints, earplugs and some tea along with the standard room telephone.
On the left hand side you will find an iHome dock to connect your iPhone which I could not use since it doesn’t work for iPhone6 and I highly advise the hotels that still have this iHomes to upgrade to the newest version so us iPhone users are able to use it ;).
Pretty standard master bedroom and for the guest with luggages you will be able to place your suitcase at the right hand side of the TV.
EXECUTIVE SUITE BATHROOM
The bathroom was probably my second favorite part of the suite, it was spacious and it had a nice bathtub to relax along with a separate shower. Big bathrooms are my favorite, while it was a fairly good size bathroom, the look of it was standard and simple, so not very luxurious. The toiletries were simple and it’s what you usually get at Sheraton Hotels. The bathroom was well kept and towels were all in good condition, obvious to point out but in the past I have ran into several properties that their towels look like they have gone to hell and back.
The bathtub as I mentioned was my favorite part and a friendly reminder, be careful as the hot water comes out fairly quickly and its super super hot. As you can see it was nothing luxurious but it got the job done for a relaxing evening.
The Sheraton Agoura Hills was a pleasant hotel to spend the weekend at and enjoy a bit of relaxation while also doing some work related duties. While the property may not be the best or most luxurious property I’ve stayed at, the customer service from the team was the highlight of the team. I was able to experience the club lounge during my visit and I have to share that they have to improve the options of food for dinner, as it wasn’t very tasty or appealing to eat. For breakfast however, the selection of food was great with a variety of bites to eat to select from. The club lounge offered all soft drinks along with juices, tea and coffee and it was clean and organized. The staff working the lounge are there to help you in anything you may require do your visit.
The pool area of the hotel offers a Jacuzzi as well and a variety of sitting available for the guest and I should have taken advantage of it but I didn’t though I had a clear view of the pool from my room and everything looked to be clean and organized and for access you will be needing your room key, along with using the fitness center of the hotel which was simple and convenient with a few treadmill machines, weights and foam rollers.
Last but not least, on the lobby floor of the hotel you will find a bar and the buffet breakfast for the guest who are willing to eat at the property. As I previously mentioned, the hotel staff was excellent and they were friendly and the status recognition doesn’t go unnoticed. Several improvements have to make but overall, it was a pleasant stay.
